The Singkíl originated from the Maranao people who inhabit the shores of Lake Lanao. It is derived from a story in the Darangen, the Maranao interpretation of the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana.
Wow! this makes me so alive! Singkil is my favorite folk dance here in the Philippines. The story of this dance is about the lost princess who is in the forest, then , by the power of the diwata (fairy), the diwata shoke the place( earthquake) and bundles of bamboo woods fell down and it lets the princess to hop simultaneously to prevent from hitting the bamboo. And thr prince was looking for her to become his bride.
Yeah! Singkil isone of the Most Famous Folk Dance in the Phils.
this is the most iconic dance of the philippines, and take note,. it isn't spanish.. spanish dances sucks...
My ankles hurt from watching this. I was totally anticipating someone's ankles getting caught in between those bamboo sticks O_O

Bravo, Bravo! Absolutely amazing. The way the dancer didn't look down while manuvering was astounishing. I'm Trini-American and as much I love my Trinidad and Tobago heritage I also love the Filipino culture, the people and the food. Seeing this was good; I wanted to know what was the sticks and the guy with the sword and shield for in one picture from some book, now I know. Again amazing job!!!
