In a sense, the Americans simply built on the prevailing sentiment of the people. He may have not have been for the revolution but he was the one who inspired the revolution. Read "Rizal without the Overcoat" by Ambeth Ocampo & educate yourself before jumping on the "Rizal an Amercian Sponsored Hero" theory.
