Ethnic Tribal Music-Dance of the Philippines - Bagobo and Ifugao tribal music-dances - NAMCYA 2009

Author: blueyoyi
Description: Ethnic music and dance are one and inseparable in the traditions of the different tribes that populated the Philippine Islands (7,000 more or less) since hundreds of years ago before the arrival of the Spaniards in the 14th century and their subsequent 350 years of colonization through the Cross and Sword. It is with sadness though that these ethnic traditions are dying and seldom performed in their original forms. The 2009 National Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) was for the Category A Group (10-14 year olds) in the Traditional Philippine Ensembles, thus you will see these performed by the young. The 1st is from the BAGOBO tribe of Davao in Southern Philippines and the 2nd group are the IFUGAO of the Mountain province in Northern Philippines. You will notice that these song-music-dances reflects to a great degree the chime-gong traditions of Filipino national minorities.

Where's the fish^^

This is EPIC!!! 8D I followed the beat with my head! It's so catchy and very tribal! This sure is an epic performance. :)

.Pre-colonial Philippines is the most authentic for me. This is better than today's Hispanicized, Americanophilic nation filled with culturally-imperialized and media-brainwashed citizens. Brown culture is awesome. Never be ashamed of it.

i just love finding videos like this. The more I get to know about the Philippines the more i love it. Thanks for the posting and I hope I can find a performance like this the next time I am there.

wow mindanao..................tara na byahe tayo sa mindanao

(continued) ancient Kapampangans were the kingdom of luzon, its capital was Tondo(not today tondo that is different...) we were very rich and prosperous off our mass trading, we were a thalassocracy... Long before we were called "Kapampangans"...

Nah they don't relate anything to each other as far as I know and how they look to each other, look at abugida family scripts, more specifically, the abugida scripts in south east asia and south asia, like india's scripts, javanese script, etc... We relate more to them. We traded with a bunch of people, not just the middle east, like China, Japan, Malaysia, I think Thailand, etc...
