The ecological intensification experiment at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI;,http://iri.org ) was established in 2011. It aims to develop solutions for diversified triple-cropping systems with sustained high production and high resource use efficiency at a commercial scale.
The cropping systems in 2011 are rice--maize--rice and maize--rice--rice. Rice is established by energy- and labor-saving direct-seeding practices without use of traditional soil puddling.
Research focuses on designing mechanized precision agriculture solutions with high efficiency of external inputs including irrigation water, nutrients, crop protection, and labor.
Teodoro Correa, CESD, gave this presentation to participants of the 4th annual meeting of the Hybrid Rice Development Consortium (HRDC). |
