A Time-Lapse Map of Every Nuclear Explosion Since 1945 - by Isao Hashimoto

Author: aConcernedHuman
Description: Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project's "Trinity" test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan's nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea's two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade (the legitimacy of both of which is not 100% clear). Each nation gets a blip and a flashing dot on the map whenever they detonate a nuclear weapon, with a running tally kept on the top and bottom bars of the screen. Hashimoto, who began the project in 2003, says that he created it with the goal of showing"the fear and folly of nuclear weapons." It starts really slow — if you want to see real action, skip ahead to 1962 or so — but the buildup becomes overwhelming. http://www.ctbto.org/specials/1945-1998-by-isao-hashimoto/ Multimedia artwork "2053" - This is the number of nuclear explosions conducted in various parts of the globe.* Profile of the artist: Isao HASHIMOTO Born in Kumamoto prefecture, Japan in 1959. Worked for 17 years in financial industry as a foreign exchange dealer. Studied at Department of Arts, Policy and Management of Musashino Art University, Tokyo. Currently working for Lalique Museum, Hakone, Japan as a curator. Created artwork series expressing, in the artist's view, "the fear and the folly of nuclear weapons": "1945-1998" © 2003 "Overkilled" "The Names of Experiments" About "1945-1998" ©2003 "This piece of work is a bird's eye view of the history by scaling down a month length of time into one second. No letter is used for equal messaging to all viewers without language barrier. The blinking light, sound and the numbers on the world map show when, where and how many experiments each country have conducted. I created this work for the means of an interface to the people who are yet to know of the extremely grave, but present problem of the world." Hey don't blame America. It was the English who pissed off our colonists back in late 1700s and the French who assisted us into becoming a new nation. We can't take all the blame you know :)

it is protecting us. It makes anyone who wants to shoot a nuke at us think twice before doing it. Don't get me wrong though, i hate nukes. But i mean this is what happens as technology advances. It becomes more convinant but also more dangerous.

I can not understand you?

ok blue mountain state

this was pain fully slow time lapse

fffffff..... i live at los angeles. all of us got cancer from that nuke blasts >:/

Would you like a game of chess?

thanks russia and america for screwing with our planet!

The end of man that is the plan. THEY LIVE !!!!! If you are stuck here in babylon , there is a reason. You are here to witness what go down when babylon go down go down.

That's terrifying.

And the USA tries to convince its people its "protecting" them from nuclear weapons... good job there ...

Well, there are weapons for different platforms, safety issues, physics understanding, storage and longevity, weapon effects, weight and size, etc. Granted there was waste (rival labs and designs, dog/pony shows, "sending messages") but there was no real incentive not to just fire one rather than sit down and think about it.

Australia volunteered our deserts for nuclear testing by the British

how the hell usa can do so much nuclear bombs answer: THEY NOT CAN THIS IS FUCKING GAYYYYYYYYYYY AND FAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE

and I DONT THINK SO BRO!!!!

some good music i think......

I understand that to the people in charge it did feel like a necessity but they shouldn't have been so trigger happy. I just don't think it should've taken that many detonations for research... But you are right though, I wasn't there and I most likely would have different opinions If I were.

No. It is a not a significant contributor to cancer. Most were under ground. Please don't draw conclusions without actual evidence.

No. Most of these were underground explosions. This is does not contribute significantly as a cause of cancer.

the first time i got caught drunk by my mom i trien to fuck my couch, so thats all my friends call me couch

Where is Israel?

soviet union stopped because the USSR collapsed in 1991, i wouldnt doubt that they wouldve continued if they didnt collapse
